WAHM-abees?

I personally coined a new term, WAHM-abees! It refers to moms who want to earn a living by working at home. It's a fusion of the words "WAHM + wannabees." I will use this term in my blog to refer to moms expressing their intent to do online homebased jobs.

A lot of moms are showing their interest in doing what I do... homebased online jobs. In our country's present situation, I understand that it's one of the best alternative to earn a decent income while still taking care of our children.

Working at home has its perks. Flexible hours, no transportation costs, no need to join rush hour traffic, no clothing expenses, no demanding bosses, no annoying officemates, and no unjust taxes.
You get to see and enjoy every stage of your child's development.

However, to be a certified WAHM and avoid just being a WAHM-abee, you need to focus and develop your time-management and multi-tasking skills. You also need to know that being a WAHM has a lot of advantages but it's not an easy job. You still need to do some sacrifices and handle more responsibilities. But for me, it's all worth it.

A WAHM's Guilt

Working from home seems to be the best solution for mothers who want to take care of their children. I thought that having a job at home means I can be available 24/7 to my child. I never expected that I will have guilty feelings even if I'm devoting all my time earning a living and taking care of my baby.

Before, my baby can play independently for an hour. She doesn't mind me doing something else. This is why I consider working again. When I started with my online job, things have changed. Now, she suddenly craves for my attention.

When I sit in front of my computer, she makes her way in between me and the monitor. She bangs the keyboard. She taps my hand when I try to answer my emails. She takes my hand and try to pull me away from my work desk. Then she will flash her most endearing , bedimpled smile.

This is why I feel so much guilt. It makes me wonder if I am giving her enough of my time, love and attention. Is it too selfish to pursue a personal ambition for financial gain? Is it all worth it?

But in the end I just try to console myself that all the things I do is also for her.

Earn Money from Paypal

According to Paypal's website, you can earn up to $1,000 USD for each referral under their Merchant Referral Bonus Program.

Rules are simple. First, you must have your own Paypal account. If you still don't have one, sign up here.

When you log-in to your account you will see the referral link, click it and Paypal will take you to the Merchant Referral Bonus Program page. You will be provided a referral link that you can use for inviting people to sign up for Paypal.

If people sign up using your referral link, you will receive an initial bonus of $1.00 once your Referred Merchant has received a total of $200.00. Plus, you'll get 0.5% of the total amount of their payments up to $1,000 for 12 months.

However, this program is designed to reward referrals of non-eBay merchants. So, payments received for eBay items will not contribute toward the Merchant Referral Bonus.

Let us help promote Paypal to get more referral bonuses.

Getting Paid Through Paypal

How do I get paid by doing homebased online jobs?

Before, my employers send me money through Xoom.com, Western Union, or bank wire transfers. Now, it's through Paypal.

Paypal is a payment method that enables any individual or business with an email address to securely and quickly send and receive payments online. There are no fees and setting up an account is very easy. All you need is an email address.

Once you signed up for an account, you will be notified thru email if you have received or sent payments to other merchants. The amount of funds you have will be immediately reflected in your account summary.

You can withdraw the money you have in your Paypal account by associating your existing local bank account and credit/debit card with Paypal. But first, you have to be a verified member meaning you will be deducted $1.95 by Paypal. Don't worry as this amount will also be credited back to you.

Paypal will deduct a small transaction fee (150Php) if amount withdrawn is below 7000Php. If you still don't have a paypal account you can sign up here.

Online Job Scam - Payment-Forwarding Scams

In my search of finding the easiest and fastest way to earn money online, I came across this job ad that sounds too good to be true. Well, it probaby is.

This job scam is known as the payment-forwarding or payment-transfer scams. The "job" involves forwarding or wiring money from a personal bank account, a PayPal account, or from Western Union to another account. The other account is often overseas. The job seeker is instructed to keep a small percentage of the money as their payment. Sometimes the payment for making the money transfer is as low as $15. Sometimes it is as high as several hundred or several thousand dollars. Almost always, the money the victims are transferring is stolen, and
therefore, the victims are committing theft and wire fraud.

Be careful in applying for online jobs like this as scammers can be quite convincing, and may even steal company names and corporate logos to convince victims that they are legitimate employers.

Here are some things you can do to avoid being a victim of payment-forwarding scams:

1. Do not give personal bank account, PayPal account, or credit card numbers to an employer.
2. Do not agree to have funds or paychecks direct deposited to any of your accounts by a new employer.
3. Do not forward, transfer, or "wire" money to an employer.
4. Do not transfer money and retain a portion for payment.

Legitimate employers usually don't need bank account numbers. However, if they insist on sending payment for your services through your bank account be sure that you know the employer well enough and if possible give a bank account that can be disposed at any time.

Earn Money Through Your Blogs

Yes, you can earn money from your blogs. The big question is how can you do it?

First, let's define what a blog is. Here’s the definition of a blog from Wikipedia:

“A blog (a portmanteau of web log) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.”

Basically, it's like an online diary where you can write everything and anything under the sun... and even over it.

If you don't know anything about starting your own blogsite to earn money better use http://www.blogger.com/ It's fast and easy to use. After you posted a few articles in your blog, you can now scout ways to monetize it.

Posting advertisements in your site will help you earn money. You can apply for a Google Adsense account to legitimately make money online.

Once Google Adsense approved your blog, you can start posting their ads on your page. Every click in these ads from visitors earns you money. So, you must capitalize in interesting contents and driving traffic to your site to earn from Google Adsense.

Blogger and Google Adsense are user-friendly sites. You don't have to be a web expert to use them. If you have patience, perseverance, and focus, you will end up earning a decent income from your blogs.

How To Get A Job Online

Here are some tips I gathered that can help you get your online job:

1. Be resourceful. There are a lot of job ads that are looking for homebased people. Just be persistent in hunting and you'll find what you want.

2. Always have a contact name. Cover letters addressed "To Whom It May Concern" will probably end up in the trash.

3. There are no perfect interview answers. Employers simply want to see if you can hold an intelligent conversation.

4. Don't worry if your grades are not perfect. Employers want people who are bright and willing to learn.

5. Tell everyone about your goals and what you want to do. You can never tell who they might know.

6. Be persistent. Don't take "No" for an answer too easily. Employers are busy and may not have time to focus on you.

7. You MUST follow up. I got one of my best online job by simply asking the employer about the status of my application. He said he picked me because I'm the only one who seems genuinely interested with the job.

8. Do not mass mail your resume. Create a specific resume for each company. If possible tailor your skills and interests to the position you're applying for.

9. Don't be afraid to be yourself.

Sample Phone Interview Questions and Answers

I just want to share my interview experience in applying for homebased jobs. These are the usual questions and answers I faced.

1. Tell Me About Yourself

I am a Customer Service professional with around four years of corporate experience. I shifted to doing homebased jobs so I can still manage my home and at the same time earn as much as I can without leaving the house. I love surfing the net and researching. I am a self-starter and I wouldn’t mind working on my own. I would like to move over onto the marketing side that’s why I am very interested in learning about the opportunities offered by your company.

2. What Motivates You?

I'm greatly motivated by the outcome of my efforts. I try to visualize what I'd like to have happen, then I work toward that outcome motivated by what I can see.

3. What is Your Strength?

I'm good at organizational skills, prioritization and time management. But my greatest strength is my ability to effectively handle multiple projects and deadlines.

4. What is Your Weakness?

Before I've had problems in delegating duties to others because I felt I could do things better myself so I'd end up with more than I could handle and the quality of my work would suffer. But I've learned how to effectively manage my time and studied effective delegation techniques, and I feel I've overcome this weakness.

5. How do you Handle Stressful Situations?

If I’m caught under a stressful situation like meeting a deadline I make a "to-do" list so I can keep track of my tasks. I also do some stretching and I take a break or a breather. If I feel too overwhelmed with the tasks, I’ll ask for assistance.

6. Why do you want this position?

I’ve always wanted the opportunity to have a homebased job where the income is determined by the amount of work and dedication I put on the job.

7. Why are you the best person for this job?

I've got experience in doing data entry and research and have the specific skills you are looking for. I'm a fast learner who adapts quickly and can easily be trained. I'm dedicated and enthusiastic about helping your company meet its goals, and will provide top-quality results with minimal oversite.

Questions To Ask Would-Be Employers:

Would this be a full time/ part time job?
What do you enjoy most about working with (name of company)?
When will I know your final decision regarding my application?

I'm usually hired after my interview so I hope this can also help you. Good Luck!

Working as a Virtual Assistant

Virtual Assistance as defined in Wikipedia is "the professional service of remote administrative office and other specialized support by an independent contractor called a virtual assistant who works with clients in an ongoing, collaborative professional relationship."

As of today, I am working as a Senior Research Assistant in YourRemoteAssistant.com. The job requires me to do administrative and research jobs for clients assigned to me. Each of our client here gets a dedicated assistant. Basically, we provide assistance to clients coming from the USA and Canada.

The job is not boring as I get to do what I love doing, research! Also, I get different, relevant topics from my clients. My clients are also very approachable and easy to work with.

Another thing that I like about this job is I get a nice hourly rate. Payment is given monthly through Paypal.

The people I work for are also very nice and warm. Our group also maintains an open communication. You can always ask for help if you need it.

There are a lot of people looking for virtual assistants nowadays. So, if you think you can do this job, a lot of opportunities awaits you.

Online ESL Teaching

What is ESL? ESL is an acronym for English as a Second Language. I had an opportunity to be an online ESL teacher and essay corrector for IELTS21 Korea. Again, I applied through Bestjobs.ph and luckily I was accepted.

The job is mainly to correct the essays made by Korean ESL students and give recommendations on how to improve their written English. I am not in direct contact with the students but the administrator sends me copies of the essays and I email them back with the proper corrections and recommendations.

The job was fairly easy and I am paid $2/ essay corrected. But sometimes it gets really hard to understand how Korean compose their sentences and I get confused as to how to correct them. Also, if you do it for long periods of time, it gets pretty boring. Finally, I decided to let go of the job and tried to look for something that sparks my interest.

On Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate Marketing is where an online business/company offers monetary rewards to its affiliates who help drive traffic to their website thus increasing its revenues.

I have also tried my luck in affiliate marketing. I researched carefully in choosing which company to join. I came across a site promoting TypeInternational and it has a group based near my area so I decided to pay for the $50 registration fee and started my affiliate marketing job.

In affiliate marketing, you really need to exert a lot of time and effort to earn. In my personal opinion, the amount I earn in this job is not commensurate to the time and effort I spend doing the job. I also don't like doing repetitive tasks so after I have earned the amount I invested, i stopped and looked for other options to earn.

My Content Writing Job

When I got that email from my first employer, I was really excited. He asked me to do some research work and content writing for his site, which is a Military Army resource site. I know nothing about content writing at first but I'm a very resourceful and diligent person so I found ways on how to effectively write content for a website.

These are the things I followed in content writing:

1. Use short, easy to understand sentences.
2. There should only be one idea per paragraph.
3. Use simple words.
4. Avoid vague sentences.
5. Create meaningful headlines and subheads.

Aside from this, I keep in mind that online readers are impatient and only scans the text rather that read word for word. So, I only write what is important. Fortunately, I passed the content writing screening and I got hired for the job.

I was paid $50/project on this job, that's 2,500Php/project in my currency. This is good because I can finish a project in just 3 days. I was given 10 projects at first. After I finished 10 projects, I was paid $500 or 25,000 Php through Xoom.com. I was very happy back then.

But the employer told me that he's still waiting for the budget for our next projects so I would have to wait for it. While waiting, I tried to look for other part time online jobs so my time won't be wasted. Can't imagine, how much could I have earned if the projects were continous.

Unfortunately, my employer told me that projects are postponed for an indefinite time so there will be no guarantee that I will be receiving future projects. That made me real sad but still I continued my quest on being a WAHM and find other ways to earn money online.
